The SAVE Act passed the House 218–213 on Tuesday. Every Republican voted yes. Only one Democrat — Henry Cuellar of Texas — crossed over.
But the real fight is the Senate, and it's already getting ugly.
Only 49 Republican senators have publicly come out in support. Murkowski is openly opposing it. Collins has reservations. And Thune is throwing cold water on any talk of changing the filibuster — saying there "aren't anywhere close to the votes" to nuke it.
Meanwhile, Mike Lee, Ron Johnson, and Rick Scott are pushing hard. There's serious talk of forcing a talking filibuster — making Democrats stand on the Senate floor and explain to the American people why they oppose an 80/20 issue like showing ID to vote.
