The universe isn't a machine. Bruce Director makes the case that consciousness, creativity, and Plato are coming back to science — and why that matters for everything.
This is not Iraq. For 118 years, every government in Iran has served Britain's financial empire. Trump has spent a year dismantling that architecture. The Mullahs were the last piece on the board. As of this morning, he's clearing it.
Unprecedented Cooperation is Decimating Mexican Cartels
The killing of cartel boss El Mencho shows unprecedented U.S.-Mexico cooperation under Trump and Sheinbaum. Meet Omar Garcia Harfuch, the Mexican security chief who survived a cartel assassination attempt and is now decimating the drug cartels.
William Wertz profiles the man leading Mexico's anti-cartel campaign — Security Secretary Omar Garcia Harfuch, who survived a CJNG assassination attempt in 2020 and has overseen the arrest of 37,000 suspects, seizure of 300 tons of drugs, and extradition of 92 drug lords to the U.S. Wertz is the author of BEWARE the British East India Company.
On Feb. 22, Mexican National Guard and special forces decapitated the Jalisco New Generation Cartel CJNG killing its leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes or El Mencho. The CJNG is responsible for smuggling billions of dollars in cocaine and fentanyl into the US.
On Feb. 26, U.S. Drug Czar Sarah Carter, in a visit to Mexico, stated that the raid demonstrated “unprecedented U.S.-Mexican coordination.
“We have close collaboration, closer coordination and intelligence sharing. I have never seen cooperation like this in the past.”
“The Mexican government is demonstrating a sincere ongoing commitment to the shared counternarcotics cause, which has plagued both of our nations for decades,” Carter said.
“Defeating the cartels is an ongoing mutual effort necessary for the safety and security of both our nations.”
Drug Czar Sara Carter says unprecedented U.S.-Mexico coordination under President Trump led to the strike on "El Mencho", calling it a major blow to the world’s most dangerous cartels:

Carter also offered condolences to General Ricardo Trevilla, Mexico’s Secretary of Defense, following casualties during the operation. 33 Mexican National Guardsmen and three special operations members were killed.
While the operation was carried out exclusively by Mexican military forces without the physical involvement of any U.S. forces, in a press conference with Mexican President Sheinbaum following the successful operation, General Trevilla publicly recognized the contribution to this operation by the U.S. Northern command.
On January 15, 2026, a new entity was created to coordinate, detect, and disrupt cartel activities along the U.S. Mexico border – The Joint Interagency Task Force-Counter Cartel (JIATF-CC). It is based in Tucson, Arizona, and operated by U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM). Brig. Gen. Maurizio Calabrese is the JIATF-CC director.
Two weeks later on January 29, 2026, President Trump posted the following on Truth Social:
“I had a very productive telephone conversation with President Claudia Sheinbaum, of Mexico. It went extremely well for both countries. Much of it was focused on the Border, stopping Drug Trafficking, and Trade. We will be speaking again, soon, and ultimately, setting up meetings in our respective Countries. Mexico has a wonderful and highly intelligent Leader — They should be very happy about that!”

From the U.S. side, this unprecedented collaboration between the U.S. and Mexican authorities is a reflection of the Trump Administration’s U.S. National Security Strategy, the stated aim of which is to enlist established friends in the Hemisphere to stop drug flows and neutralize cartels.
However, what must be understood, is that Mexican patriots are as committed to eradicating the drug cartels as are U.S. patriots and on the Mexican side, the administration of Mexican President Sheinbaum has been taking decisive action.
The person President Sheinbaum chose to lead the Mexican campaign against the drug cartels, Omar Garcia Harfuch, Mexico's Secretary of Security, is from a long line of Mexican institutional patriotic nationalists.
Who Is Omar Garcia Harfuch?
44 year-old Omar Garcia Harfuch was born in 1982 in Cuernavaca, Mexico. He is the grandson of General Marcelino Garcia Barragan, a former secretary of defense, and the son of politician Javier Garcia Paniagua who was head of the Federal Security Directorate (DFS) from 1976 to 1978. Later he served as President of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) in 1981 and held positions in the cabinet of President José López Portillo as Secretary of Agrarian Reform and Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare. In 1982, under pressure, Lopez Portillo passed him over as PRI candidate for President and instead nominated Miguel de la Madrid Hurtado. Paniagua later became Mexico Chief of Police from 1988-91.

Following in his grandfather’s and father’s footsteps Garcia Harfuch built his career in law and public security. He held the post of Mexico City's police chief while Claudia Sheinbaum was the mayor of Mexico City.
As Mexico City’s security chief (2019–2023), Omar García Harfuch significantly reduced crime, with government data showing a roughly 40% drop in the city's murder rate.
So effective was he that in 2020, a CJNG unit attacked his convoy in Mexico City. Armed with high‑caliber weapons and explosives, the attackers fired hundreds of rounds at his vehicle. Harfuch was shot three times in the arm, shoulder, and leg. He survived. Two of his bodyguards and a civilian bystander were killed. Authorities attributed the attack to the CJNG under El Mencho's leadership.
In October 2024, Garcia Harfuch was appointed Mexico's Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, giving him overall responsibility for confronting cartel violence nationwide. In this role, he works with Mexico's armed forces, federal police, and intelligence services to plan and execute security operations.
Massive Arrests and Extraditions
Since Sheinbaum took office Oct. 1, 2024, Mexican authorities under his leadership have arrested more than 37,000 suspects in "high-impact crimes," seized more than 300 tons of illicit drugs and dismantled more than 600 drug labs.
They have also extradited 92 drug lords to the United States for trial.
Coordination between Mexico and the US is essential and is now occurring between the Trump and Sheinbaum administrations.
Such collaboration has not always been the case.
The Obama and Biden Disasters
During the Obama administration, the U.S. provided the Sinaloa Cartel with over 2000 weapons - mainly AK-47s - as part of Operation Fast and Furious without even informing the Mexican government.
Not only was US Border Patrol officer Brian Terry murdered on December 15, 2010 by criminals using these weapons supplied to the Sinaloa Cartel by Obama, but former Mexican Attorney General Victor Humberto Benítez Treviño estimates that approximately 300 Mexicans were killed or wounded using Operation Fast and Furious guns, which were found in the vicinity of at least 200 crime scenes.
Overall, estimates suggest that over 185,000 to over 350,000+ Mexicans have been killed in cartel-related violence since 2006.
During the Obama administration in 2013, the Chicago Crime Commission named Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán, head of the Sinaloa Cartel "Public Enemy Number One." This designation was due to the significant influence of his Sinaloa Cartel on the city's drug market, marking the first time the title was used since Al Capone in 1930.
The Biden administration’s open border policy allowed the drug cartels to significantly increase their power, profits, and influence, largely by exploiting the surge in illegal migration at the southern border.
Under Biden the cartels were estimated to be making $13 billion a year from smuggling illegal migrants into the United States, a massive increase from estimated revenues in previous years.
Cartels solidified control over smuggling routes.
Cartels (primarily Sinaloa and Jalisco) leveraged the increased, chaotic flow of migrants to smuggle unprecedented amounts of fentanyl and methamphetamine into the U.S..
Cartels created mass migrant surge events to overwhelm U.S. Border Patrol agents, creating gaps in security to move drugs and high-value, smuggled individuals.
Cartels expanded their operations into the U.S. interior.
Cartels used their increased profits to acquire more advanced weapons and technology
New Dawn Under Trump and Sheinbaum
In the press conference given by President Sheinbaum, it was reported that 85% of the weapons confiscated by Mexican authorities come from the U.S.
While it is true that the many Mexican officials have been corrupted by the cartels, that is also the case in the U.S. where the cartels have been allowed to operate under Democratic sanctuary city and state policies.
But in both nations, the current administrations of President Trump and President Sheinbaum are committed to protecting their populations and the populations if each others nations.
As the attempted assassination against Omar Garcia Harfuch in 2020 and the death of 33 Mexican national guardsmen and 3 special operations servicemen in the recent apprehension and death of El Mencho show, Mexican patriots are every bit as determined to end the scourge of the drug cartels as are American patriots.
