The Saturday Wrap-Up - He's Stopping the British Plot to Carve Up Russia: Real Reason They Hate Trump - October 31, 2026
Von der Leyen claims the Arctic for the EU. Barbara Boyd on the old British plot to carve up Russia, the Bering Strait tunnel, and the Russian JFK file note on a “Kennedy-Khrushchev World Peace Bridge.”
Barbara Boyd opens with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presenting the EU's new Arctic strategy ("it's not someone else's frontier. It's part of the European Union") and, in Montreal for the EU–Canada summit, saying that the principles defended in Ukraine include "also the Arctic". She ties both to an old British imperial aim, to carve up Russia: NATO's expansion to Russia's border, Scott Horton's "Provoked" on the 2014 coup in Ukraine, and Zbigniew Brzezinski's adoption of Halford Mackinder's strategy. She maps who actually holds the Arctic, recalls the Trump–Putin summit in Anchorage and the Bering Strait tunnel proposal that caught the President's eye, and follows Mark Carney's "middle powers", the U.S. Embassy's fact sheet on Canadian activities in U.S. politics, Natalie Winters' report on European Parliament money for a meeting on resisting Trump, Canada's 100-year partnership with Ukraine, and President Putin on working with the U.S. in the Arctic.
The episode then compares fossil fuel and rare earth reserves for the U.S., Russia and China against the U.S., Canada and Europe, recalls candidate Trump in 2015 on getting along with Russia and China, and turns to Sergei Lavrov at the G20 foreign ministers' meeting in Atlanta, the cancelled group photo, and the G20 summit in Miami and APEC in China ahead. It closes with the note from Russia's JFK file on the "Kennedy-Khrushchev World Peace Bridge", James W. Douglass's "JFK and the Unspeakable", Kennedy's call for a joint expedition to the Moon, and the Arctic as humanity's last great frontier.
